The mission of the Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation is to protect places of historic and cultural significance and to preserve and promote for future generations the stories of all people who built, lived in and created these places. The Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation (ATHP) is excited to be a part of transforming historic preservation towards a more inclusive, hands-on practice throughout our State.

As Alabama’s only statewide preservation advocacy organization, ATHP exists to support preservation efforts of our great diversity of important places - from indigenous mound sites to roadbeds on the Trail of Tears, to unmarked cemeteries of enslaved people and the plantations they built, to schools, churches, rocket development sites and beyond!

We are about places, and, we are also about people. And we are motivated by a sense of urgency to act. We believe that historic preservation provides an invaluable pathway to the future for a more sustainable, beautiful and equitable Alabama that everyone can be proud of. We are about saving Alabama’s historic places, because preservation matters.
